On Thursday 25 September the Los Pececitos kindergarten opened its doors for the first time in the las Cabras area.
Los Pececitos (Spanish for “little fish”) will provide daycare to 22 children from the area around the winery’s Trinidad vineyard in the Maipo Valley.
Work began on this project in 2012. Over the last two years we have seen this dream come true, thanks to the enthusiasm of many people, including our co-workers, customers and suppliers and guidance of the Chilean charity Desafío Levantemos Chile.
The launch event was attended by public functionaries from the area, including the mayor of Las Cabras, Rigoberto Leiva, and the regional manager of Chile’s national board for kindergartens, JUNJI, as well as representatives from the winery and from Desafío Levantemos Chile. The children who will attend the centre were also at the event, together with their parents.
“This initiative is a good example of social spirit and partnership working between members of the community and all the people who gave energy and resources and, most importantly of all, put their hearts and souls into helping others. Together they have achieved an outstanding objective and one which will have a significant social impact”, explained Martín Silva, the General Manager of Viña Ventisquero.
The project cost a total of 60 million Chilean pesos. Half of the funds were raised by the employees at the winery, who organized a number of different fundraising activities. The winery itself contributed the other half.
